Salt is a well known chemical compound that existed for ages. It has a wide variety of uses from food seasoning, preservative agent, and industrial purposes. Even Hollywood is crazy about salt. Don't be confused, it has nothing to do with the chemical compound, just that the latest Angelina Jolie blockbuster movie is titled Salt, totally irrelevant. Salt is also an electrolyte that is very essential in the human body, contains no protein, carbohydrates, and calories.
Sodium chloride that is the chemical name of salt, in normal amounts salt helps the kidneys regulate body fluids, also balances the acid and base levels. According to health experts, an adult human body has to consume three to eight grams of sodium as daily diet, though this depends on the size of the body and age. Recent studies reveal that over the years, people are carelessly abusing salt in their diet. Though sodium is essential in our health excessive amounts could be toxic to our bodies. What would be the result if our diet includes above normal amounts of salt?
